Im good with last years logo as well. Been out scouting a bit, know the general area of the birds roosting in afew farms, not much has changed over the year besides having another farm to try my luck at with birds. turkey.gif

I'm here guys.

I had a little mishap with my bow last week. Let a friend hold it and of course he dry fired it. Note to self never again let a person touch my bow.

So it is in the shop getting fixed. Hopefully it will be ready for the 23rd so I can tune it for the opener.

Here are a couple of pics from my favourite farm to hunt.

5 toms out with 15 hens. I actually saw 7 toms @ once while wathing those birds. 1 behind me the 5 out in the field and another tom entered the field but was ran off.
user posted image

2 of the toms came to within 10 yards of where I was hiding. You can see the other 3 strutting in the field just under the branch.
user posted image

This was the best trail camera picture I had. Didn't change the batteries and the cam was dead. At least this one snapped. I also had the camera to high. I have to remember I'm not trying to catch deer.
user posted image

Can't wait for the season I'm just really hoping my bow will be fixed. 10.gif

I'm here to boys. Lots of birds around and I'm off work for the opener. allright.gif One with the gun and one with the crossbow is my goal for this year. I say we keep the banner. Like Road said if it's not broke why change anything.

Hello team! Looking forward to getting out there again & scoring a nice tom. With the mild Winter we had in my hunting area, birds should be plentiful! Good luck to everyone! Let's all hope for a repeat of last year beer_cheers.gif

George

@NorfolkHunter, sorry to hear about your mishap with the bow. Don't be too hard on your friend, I'm sure he didn't mean to break your bow.

Had a pretty wild morning guys. About a hour after fly down I had two toms at 29 yards. Then a yote comes out and they run. Lol. 30 min later 3 jakes at 5 yards with the decoys. Added a jake decoy and the two toms come back and gobble for 20 min at 80 yards. After the left I moved my blind from the middle of the field to the back corner and set up one hen. Start calling and have the pair of toms come back again at 19 yards but wouldn't stop. By now it's about 1 .I pull the decoy in. At 2 I see three smasher toms crossing the field about 400 yards away. I call and one comes in but looped threw the bush. I see him coming and he stops at 20 yards and is looking for the hen. He starts to walk towards me and I think I'm going to get a shot! Well he makes a turn and walks 18 yards beside me. I have the bow at full draw but the bugger wouldn't stop. F##%.
My son is hunting across the road so I text him and tell him to get over here. I
Let him know where to go and tell him to call ever 30 min and not to use a decoy.
He only a few hundred yards away in the thick stuff. I hear him call then about 4 min later boooom !

wow that is a special bird! congrats on getting things to work, i had a slow opener, got setup a bit late and birds had roosted in neiughbouring property and decided to walk the other way. had 7 deer come out as i was leaving. saw one hen.

I got out this morning to wher ei shot my 2 birds last year. setup in the same corner and had a wierd morning, barely any gobbling and no birds roosted where they usually do. eventually i had 2 jakes and 3 hens and a tom enter across the field 500yds away and never did come any closer, packed up after a while of watching the henned up tom and had no interest in shooting a jake this morning.. ill be heading out in a bit for the afternoon hunt. windy and rainy but ill be in the blind on a inside field corner. goodluck everyone! beer_cheers.gif

Its been a bit quiet over here, hows everyone doing out and about. i setup this morning and for the first time thi year had a logbeard answer me twice on the roost. thought he was commited forsure to only have him flydown and take off with the hens. went for a walk and relized even if he did commit he had to cross a creek to get to me, went midday and setup my blind on a field edge about 80yds from the roost. ill sneak in early and hope he flys down after seeing bmobile and hen in breeding position. turkey.gif

Good luck tomorrow morning WhiteTail! I will also be going out without scouting tomorrow morning to the same farm I was at on Sunday morning. I think the toms are solidly henned up by now. They were NOT on Sunday. I had 6 hens that kept me pinned down for 2 hours in the morning. OMG my ass went totally to sleep, lol. I didn't want to spook them off the area they were in & hoped that they would bring a big tom in. Well that didn't happen. The 6 hens exited the field about 5 feet from where I was sitting. My camo is very good & they didn't even know I was there. I plan to hunt the whole day tomorrow so hopefully something other than jakes will visit. Good luck to everyone!

I also refreshed my bear bait with a bunch of stuff my wife was throwing out. Lots of old sweet cereal & candy, bread, & muffin/cake mixes. It all smelled really good, lol. I put up the trailcam so I should catch this years visitors. Also put out a new saltblock. The old one didn't last long & now there is a big hole in the ground where it was sitting. I will put a trailcam on it too as soon as I fix the one the cubs chewed on.

Good luck guys I'll be out again in the morning. Had this tom i've been after at a 100 yrds this morning. When i hunted it on sunday morning i had im at 20 but in some real thick ######. Move my blind a little closer to the roost area and went back in the afternoon with the hedge trimmer rofl.gif . The bugger flys down and spends the first two hours in a area not bigger then 200x 200 yrds.
I see schnitz nailed a nice one allright.gif

Hope you get you bow soon Devin 8.gif

Came close this morning. Worked a tom down a ridge line to have him come to within 5 yards of my blind. He wouldn't come out infront of me. Before he made it behind the blind I contemplated opening a back window and zipping an arrow through there. With the camera rolling I decided to see if he would come out infront. I guess he didn't feel like a haircut today.
Back at it tomorrow morning. Good luck everyone this weekend!

Well it has been a tough season in my area. Lots of hens but few mature toms. The first half of the season the toms in my area hardly gobbled at all in the AM. I finally decided to take a jake just to get on the board.

user posted image

Small jake. 3.5" beard. 12.5 lbs. 1/4" nubs for spurs 10.gif . Sorry guy's, I will try for a bigger bird but I don't have high hopes.

Regards,

George

Congratulations George. Seems like the season has been tough for some and easy for others. Turkey numbrs appear to vary across the province. Randy, have you ever gone three weeks into the season without taking a gobbler? It will happen one of these days. Did Ken or Brady smash a gobbler yet?

Ken got a nice Tom at the factory the other morning Rene. Brady hasn't been out crazy.gif

Last year I didn't get one till the 14 th. the place I harvested both of my toms last year has no birds and the farm where you got yours has no birds too. Now this farm I'm at now for the first time in two years has a ton. It's in the city and has no pressure at all.
I think Tracey is way more pissed then me rofl.gif alarm going off at 4:15 she was just telling me last night to get my shotgun out icon_1_lol.gif
It will happen in time and if not, I still have had a great season allright.gif

Made it out for a final hunt this afternoon as work wont let me get out again. I brought along my girlfriend who just completed her hunting and firearm course and she was excited to come out with me. as we walked into a woodlot i thought i had heard a gobble but that thought dissapeared as i heard dirtbikes start coming down the road. we continued in and setup the ground blind and got settled in with a bobbin head hen out front at 20 yds. a few mins later i heard a gobble deeper in the bush and the game was on. after calling to him with no answers i started to think he left but a crow went off and so did the bird. he was getting closer until he hungup on a flooded area in the bush. some soft calling and eventaully going quiet on him brought him strutting, spitting and drumming into 20 yds right to the decoy where i sent an arrow from the excalibur through the boiler room. the bird did a back flip and flopped only 5 yds away before expiring. This was my first archery kill and took a nice tom to boot. The bush was so thick that i couldnt spot him until he was right on top of us. this isnt my biggest bird but it sure was nice to go another year without tag soup! i didnt get a picture with the bow but as you can see from the blood and almost severed wing that it was a bow shot. Bird weighed 20lbs, 10 1/4" beard and 15/16" spurs. spur pic isnt the best.
Now its time to get ready for deer season!
enjoy
