Here is my first buck. Can I assume I can upgrade if I get a bigger one?? Sorry for the garage shot. I was hunting alone today

Well I have been out 4 times this year and have seen deer every time but all antlerless. Today my luck changed. Was out this morning and saw a doe as I was playing with notherners rangefinder that I borrowed to confirm my distance markers I spooked her with my movement. Ooops I was a little mad at myself. 30 minutes later I saw a deer coming right at me. It jumped the fence and it was a 6 pointer, I started to wonder if I should take it when I looked behind it and there was a deer following it. I thought it was an 8 pointer because I could see the 4 on one side. By this time the 6 was 15 yards from me and the other was closing ground quickly, once the second hit the 15 yard mark and broadside I sent my 100 grain Slick trick through it's ribs or so I thought. He takes 2 jumps then walks slowly towards a third deer that I didn't see till after the shot (forkhorn). He stood for what seemed like forever till he kept walking behind some brush. I was really doubting my shot. I didn't see any blood on him and he didn't seem hurt. Then I heard him go down once then finally go down for good within sight. Needless to say the other 2 deer ran off. Even though I saw him down I wanted to wait a few minutes to ensure he was fully out. I hear a noise and look it is the 6 pointer back. I put down my crossbow and took out the camera. Took some pics of him at 20 yards. Funny don't see a buck the entire season yet and could have shot 2 within 10 minutes lol. I get to the downed deer and it was a 7 pointer, one tine was not big enough. I am so surprised it took so long for him to go down. I got both lungs and top of the heart. Here are some pics of the one I shot and the 6 pointer afterwards.

This little 5 point made the mistake of watching a beagle (not ours) run 5 does and fawns past him and then he tried to sneak passed me. Big oops! icon_1_lol.gif

Well team finally managed to see a buck that was over 1.5 years old.....

Had I seen him out at a distance I might have let him walk, however I am still happy with this harvest. He will be tasty on the BBQ. He was shot a point blank virtually with only 1 second to spare to shoot or not shoot....he was on the run...

Morning started nice and cold. minus 4deg. not a quiet walk in the bush thats for sure. Stayed in stand till about 8:30 or so then came down for ahh uuunn bowel relief.... rofl.gif , watch where you step tnight "onmedic", then headed for the "hole" box blind. My partner had seen a doe and a fawn earlier but was out of range, so he decided to chase after them, in hopes to push the doe towards me (have surplus doe tag). Took my partner about an hour to do the loop around me and he was about 50 yards behind me when I was getting ready to leave and was packing my bag and having a drink of water when i caught movment to the east....dropped the water bottle, buck jumped across my shooting lane no further than 25 yards, raised gun, saw decent antlers, put bead in front of chest and let it loose.... ihe_killem.gif he came down in the other shooting lane, i seen the entry hole and blood was pouring out, I knew I had a good hit....he pilled up a second later about 40 yards away....

Pictures are not great as my camera was still wet from the bad weather the night before....so pictures were taken with my blackberry phone.

All in all it has been a great week, it was a slow start, but after Tuesday my partner John and I have had over a dozen shooting opportunities.... thumbsup.gif

We have a doe tag to fill now and for me, no pulling the trigger again unless "walter" shows up..... icon_1_lol.gif

Onmedic is joining us tonight, so we hope everybody gets to see deer and possibly pull the trigger again.

The buck is an 8 pointer, he is not older than 2.5 in my opinion.

Cheers

Cdn Hunter

As found.

Well After Wed nights flight delay I was kinda bummed, I figured I would not be to interested in the hunt this am as I had about 5 hours sleep in 32 hours, I went out and sat in my Swamp stand, Also known as big buck lane, Most deer commin out of the ceder swamp in the back end there tend to be larger, Dont ask me why but it just seems that way. Anyhow after about 1.5 Hours sittin in the stand threw thick fog the wind picked up, The sun came out and the fog lifted, With the sun casting its warm rays onto the ground out infront of me I was gettin a little ancy to go and warm up out of the stand, I pressed on and sat waiting out my chills. Wasnt to long after the fog lifted that this big ole guy came cruisin out with its head down and nose leading his way. I waited until he got up behind a small thicket of trees then I raised my gun, That buck stoped and turned just a little and looked right at me. I aimed a bit lower then normal as I knew it wouldnt be a great shot but doable. I smacked him with 180 Graind of .308 Thunder.

Team 11 Buckaneers. It doesn't match up to some of the bruisers on the board this year, but at 2:00 on the last day of my hunt I just couldn't wait for his big brother so I let my BLR bark. Unfortunately one brow tine didn't quite make the 1 inch minimium so I can only count 7 points.user posted image
